Saturday, two warriors surfaced after an incredible competition of athletic capacity. At CrossFit RED, we feel comfortable claiming a higher standard of fitness and one that is well above most fitness facilities member per member base. We also feel comfortable (not in a cocky but confident way;) stating that our top 25 athletes that competed this weekend are some of the top athletes in all of Grand Junction, the Western Slope and even Colorado. All the athletes did awesome and hopefully are inspired to continue the training for future competitions. Your journeys have just begun, athletes, so keep doing what got you here.   The two that came out on top did an amazing job cruising through the workouts with grace, making them look only a little more than effortless. Samuel Matthews and Natalie Mclain were crowned fittest at RED. CONGRATS, GUYS! YOU ARE>>>THE BEST!

Thank you again to all of the volunteers that made this event possible. From judging to organizing to coaching to providing food. We are very thankful and grateful for you guys.

  2. Please explain "CF Games scoring".

  3. So if I would have used three abmats and done two inch H S P U I would have scored higher according to the " Crossfit Scoring" ???? Confused???

  4. Sorry guys- I don't know why Tiffany's name keeps coming up.

    Brad-
CF Games Scoring is the Scoring they use at any/all "official" CrossFit Competitions. Example: you rank the scoring based on times/rounds. Nat (in the female division) got the highest number of reps on the 2nd WOD therefore she got a "0" I was 2nd, I got a "1" and so on. But, on the 1st WOD Nat was 2nd, therefore she got a "1" for that wod Andrea got a "0".

Kirk- the only reason I did the Games scoring also is because we had multiple people come up to us confused/disappointed with the scoring. Technically, If we went by EXACT CF GAMES Scoring a modification = DNF (did not finish)!!!

  5. Okay... so there would have been alot of DNF on the last WOD... which places emphasis on the first two wods only? Would the games scoring system also scored a DNF for not making the 20 min. cut-off on the last WOD? Just curious not that it makes a difference, just was wanting some info... thanks Jess

  6. With The CF Games (strict) scoring, yes, most athletes would have had a DNF instead of placing. We did a less-strict version, to allow for modifications just because it was announced before hand that a modification WOULD have a 1min time penalty.
To answer your first question, a DNF in strict CF Scoring would put you out of the event (if there are 8 events and you get a DNF on 1, you are out for the rest of the competition).
Second question: in the CF strict Scoring, if you did not make the 20min cut off it would be a DNF and you would be out completely. We had athletes that were so close, that we just let them finish for them to have a time =)

    Make sense???
Sorry if it is confusing. I just wanted to show people another way of scoring, even though it is not the STRICT CF GAMES SCORING, it still uses the theory of it in a relaxed way because of the understanding that a mod=time hit.

  7. Welp, to me this just confirms my need to make HSPUs & MUs a 2011 NY Resolution...gotta love how crossfit exposes so many of our weaknesses!
EVERYONE was a hero on Saturday ... AND I have a feeing we were all heros on Sunday too as the repercussions of what we had done Saturday (and Saturday night) began to expose themselves in many painful ways on our bodies...can you say rhabdo in my quads!?!?
We'd do it all over again, however, I have the feeling :)
HAPPY HOLIDAYS RED CREW...You are an inspiring second family!

  8. I just have to say what a BLAST I had that day. I had no clue how much fun it would be to judge, but also challenging as well. You all inspire me and I'm so thankful to be a part of Red's family. You guys all ROCK!
Also props to Patrick!! You did an awesome job making this happen and thank you for everything you do!

  9. Couple extras...(don't you just hate once you've made a post and say to yourself, "oops, forgot to say this or that"!?)
ANYHOW - TOTALLY AGREE with those of you who comliment PB on his organization of this weekend's event - you really put your best foot forward this time PBoss - congrats! And don't forget that there is a great woman behind the man - thanx for your work behind the scenes & always showing up Tiff!
    NAT & SAM - BOO HA! U R AWESOME!!!
CHAD, we know it nearly killed you not to compete, but we all know how bad a*s you are...now go save our country and be safe! We will SO miss having you around!
JUDGES - you guys and gals really did ROCK! That's a fun and inspiring place to be, but not easy, especially after the 400th DU you count while your contestants are giving you the stink eye about what # they're on :) WELL DONE GANG!
NEXT - to those who were participating in their first Crossfit Comp - way to represent! I was in awe at the stamina and determination you ALL showed! Keep comin' back!
Those who came to CHEER - I think I can speak for all who participated that there is NOTHING like having someone like Jim P. counting you through your 9th round of a sucky #2 WOD, or hearing Keelin yell "you are strong!", etc. You are all just as important as anyone at these things! Thanx for taking time out to yell!
OK - NATE, I had NOTHING to do with the PORN commment...Kerri is the funniest chick I know ALL ON HER OWN!!! Love having you around Stones :) AND, LOVE my new shake weight :) Thanx Frechies - UR THE BESTEST!
Holiday Motto - WORK HARD, PLAY HARD, SHAKE HARD! 3-2-1 Go!

  10. My turn...I just have to say that I knew this would be a test from a stand point of programming to coordinating to judging to promotion to timing to weather to... you name it. There is so much more you start to think about 3 days before the event happens than you plan for even weeks before. I was pleasantly surprised to see that all athletes showed up big. The character that was tested in moments of trouble and defeat. The comradeship of the volunteer team and the quick decision making of all those who were asked to perform. Even the spectators that watched in support and helped scurry to help with weights, trash, food, cheering, etc.
CrossFit RED is a community that I feel extremely fortunate to be a part of. It is a privilege as much as it is a responsibility. It is a platform to share the spirit and battle of life as much as it is a philosophy of health and fitness. CROSSFIT is special there is no doubt...but I feel that CrossFit RED is special with a splash of magic, and it all comes down to the people of Grand Junction. What a special group- Love you guys;-)
